Pratik Bhakta for Asheville City Council

Campaign Issues

Among the limited resources city council has to budget for each year, there are a number of issues that need to be addressed.

One of our most valuable assets is the majestic beauty of our region.  We must preserve and protect it.  It’s the right thing to do socially, morally and economically.  Leading in the areas of sustainability, energy efficiency and green jobs is of paramount importance.  We must work closely with leaders at the state, county and regional level in order to make a meaningful difference.  After all, everyone is downstream and we all breathe the same air.

Fiscal Responsibility

Being tasked with the responsibility of making sure the city allocates much needed funding to areas of concern, remain the utmost priority of city council.  Finding a balance to ensure its citizens have their concerns addressed while maintaining a thriving city requires much needed talents and vision.  As a business owner, & operator, I believe, I have the knowledge and skillset required to make decisions that will positively impact this great city while maintaining its uniqueness and charm.  Making sure that spending of your hard earned tax dollars shouldn't be taken lightly and I will make sure that we, as the city, will be fiscally responsible!

Understanding the needs and concerns of the diverse communities in Asheville is paramount to the success of this city and also city council.  As such, following the various codes and standards of the Unified Development Ordinance is vital to the development of new infrastructure and neighborhoods.  I believe we should invite progress with strategic growth.  A thriving infrastructure, means more jobs, better paying jobs, better quality of life and better communities!

The Economy

JaneOne of the biggest challenges facing any city is, how to maintain or improve the economy so that it's many residents continue to call their city their home for many, many years.  Asheville is NOT a major metropolitan area and we shouldn't treat it as such.  However, we aren't just a town either.  We are a balance of the two.  But we also have growing needs, affordable housing, greenways, traffic congestion & many more.  It's easy to want to improve all of these things, but with a limited budget, we need to spend wisely.  It all starts with improving the economy by investing in those areas that will yield the greatest return!
